MAVERiC Studio
What is MAVERiC Studio?
MAVERiC Studio is UC San Diego’s production-based studio for immersive storytelling and innovation. It stands for Mixed Augmented Virtual Extended Reality Innovation Center, a public-private training ground where students and alumni earn real-world credit by designing stories, worlds, and experiences that blend physical and digital reality.
This is not a lab. It’s a working studio. We offer a diverse range of opportunities designed to empower seekers with essential XR skills. Our hands-on workshops and immersive programs provide you with the knowledge and experience needed to excel in this dynamic field including:
- Immersive storytelling and world-building
- XR Application design and prototyping
- 3D modeling and environment creation
- User experience design and interaction
- AI accelerated systems
Extend Your Reality
At MAVERiC Studio, stories don’t stay on the page or behind a screen, they become real. Every season, our team of students and alumni transforms worldbuilding projects into live, playable experiences. We call them Night Markets immersive public pop-ups that take place monthly online, bi-monthly inside the UC San Diego Bookstore, and once a year at San Diego Comic-Con.
These aren’t demos or showcases. They’re moments where fantasy becomes functional. Where concept art becomes costume. Where coins, characters, and environments walk out of the virtual and into the room with you.
