What to Expect

Now that you have booked your reservation, here's what you can expect on your visit.

What to Bring

Before you arrive, please bring a laptop or storage device for your recording. The file will be on a memory card so you need to transfer it onto your device before you leave. A memory card reader will be provided. We regularly clean the memory cards, so we cannot promise to store your files for you for any period of time.

Check-in

We recommend arriving 10 minutes prior to your reservation to check-in at the front desk of the fourth floor of the Design & Innovation Building at the top of stairs. If the studio is open, the floor receptionist will let you in to get settled, so you can maximize your time.

The receptionist will be your main point of contact for the duration of your reservation. Once in the studio, you will given a brief overview of the equipment, along with best practices, and what to do if you encounter an issue. Recording is nearly plug and play with only a few buttons to push to send you on your way. We will also assist with room set up should you require the green screen or use of the television. We will answer any questions you may have regarding your experience.

Guests

Studio 411 can accommodate up to 4 mic'd guests at the table and two additional unmic'd guests should you want to have a producer and/or assistant in the room during the recording. We ask that no more than 6 people use the space at one time. Additional guests beyond that will be asked to wait outside the studio in the lounge area. Please note that guests outside of the university are absolutely welcome to participate; however only UC San Diego students, faculty and staff may reserve the studio.

Recording

Your recording will be on a memory card. A memory card adapter will be provided so you can transfer your file over to your laptop or storage device. Guests handle their own post-production outside of the studio reservation.

The studio space is only available to those guests who sign the social contract. Feel free to print and sign the social contract prior to your reservation. Just remember to bring it with you. Check-out

As you approach the end of your reservation, the receptionist will alert you 10 mins prior, so you can wrap up your recording.

If you complete your recording before your reservation is up, please alert the receptionist; do not leave without checking out with the receptionist. They will ensure everything is back in order in the room, that you have everything you need, and answer any remaining questions you may have.
